What is a Business Reset?

What if the biggest opportunity in your business isn't doing more ...

it's looking at what you've already built but differently?

Businesses don't stand still.

Neither do the people who own them.

You gain experience.

You become more confident.

You attract different clients.

You introduce new services.

You learn what works — and what doesn't.

Over time, your business evolves.

The question is...

Has the way you run it evolved too?

A Business Reset isn't about starting over.

It's about examining the business you've built so you can make intentional decisions about where it goes next.

Here’s What I’ve Noticed

After spending years talking with business owners, I've realized something.

Most entrepreneurs don't struggle because they aren't working hard enough.

They struggle because they're making today's decisions using yesterday's business.

They're still charging what they charged years ago.

Still saying yes to work that no longer fits.

Still using systems that made sense when they had ten clients instead of one hundred.

Still making decisions based on fear instead of where the business is today.

Not because they're doing anything wrong.

Because they've been busy running their business.

Very few people ever make time to stop and examine it.

The Decisions We Don’t Talk About

Every business owner eventually faces decisions like these.

Revenue is slowing down.

Do you create another product or service ...

... or improve the ones you already have?

Your coach says it's time to hire.

But is your business actually ready ...

... or are you hiring because you think a bigger team makes your business look more successful?

You've been thinking about raising your prices for months.

But then the questions start.

"What if people leave?"

"Am I worth it?"

"Maybe I'll wait until next year."

A potential client reaches out.

The work isn't quite right.

It doesn't fit what you really want to be doing anymore.

But revenue has been slow ...

... so you say yes anyway.

You've been using the same systems, processes, and ways of working for years.

They've always worked.

Until suddenly ...

They don't.

Those aren't business problems.

They're business decisions.

And every decision shapes what your business becomes.

Return on Investment … or Return on Decisions?

One of the first questions people ask is:

"What's the return?" How will this actually help or impact my business?

It's a fair question.

Every investment in your business should create value.

Sometimes that's measured in dollars.

Sometimes it's measured in time.

Sometimes it's means fewer mistakes, stronger systems, or better client relationships.

A Business Reset can contribute to all of those outcomes — but not because I can promise specific financial results.

The real return comes from making better decisions.

I call it your Return on Decisions.

Because one thoughtful decision today can influence your business for years to come.

  • Maybe it's finally increasing your prices because they reflect the value you provide today — not the value (and skills or expertise) you offered five years ago.

  • Maybe it's deciding not to hire yet because your business needs stronger systems before another team member.

  • Maybe it's letting go of a service that's been draining your time and energy so you can focus on the work your business is known for.

  • Maybe it's realizing revenue isn't your biggest issue — your client mix is.

  • Maybe it's deciding that saying yes to every opportunity is keeping you from building the business you actually want.

  • Maybe it's recognizing that the way you've always done something simply isn't serving your business anymore.

None of those decisions come with a guaranteed dollar amount attached to them.

But every one of them has the potential to change the direction of your business.

The Cost of Waiting

Sometimes the biggest business cost isn't making the wrong decision.

It's putting off the right one.

Every month you delay raising your prices because you're afraid of losing clients ...

... you're making a decision.

Every time you say yes to work that no longer fits your business ...

... you're making a decision.

Every time you postpone updating a process because "it still works" ...

... you're making a decision.

Every time you avoid looking at your numbers because you're afraid of what you'll find. ..

... you're making a decision.

Doing nothing is still a decision.

The question is...

Are those decisions helping your business evolve ... or keeping it where it is?

Hello My Lovely Human

Image of Work Smart Canada Founder, Jodi Laking, sitting at a desk, talking on a cell phone, with a laptop, coffee mug, and plant sitting on a desk in front of her. She's talking to a potential client about the importance of doing a business reset.

My name is Jodi Laking.

Here's what you should know about me.

I don't believe every business problem needs a new strategy.

Or another piece of software.

Or another service.

I believe business owners already know far more about their business than they give themselves credit for.

What they often don't have is uninterrupted time to think.

To ask better questions.

To challenge assumptions.

To examine what's changed.

That's the conversation I create.

Not because I have all the answers.

Because I've spent years helping business owners untangle complex decisions, recognize patterns they couldn't see from the middle of their business, and reconnect with what's most important.

People often leave our conversations saying,

"I never thought about it that way."

Or ...

"I finally have a plan that makes sense."

To me, that's where meaningful change begins.
